Debuting in July 2014, The Nickel will open in the heart of Denver’s thriving Theatre District in a renovated ground floor of the iconic Hotel Teatro - A Denver Hotel. A chef-driven culinary concept, the menu will draw inspiration from its Rocky Mountain heritage, incorporating locally sourced ingredients into rustic, stripped-down Colorado fare. The décor of The Nickel will echo the menu, featuring textiles sourced from the Rocky Mountain region; custom-made furnishings and industrial materials with a simplistic, masculine feel.
This Denver Restaurant’s name pays homage to Hotel Teatro's storied past. With an original vault dating back to the property’s origins as Denver’s Tramway Building in 1911, the space was once used to collect nickels from customers riding streetcars.
Leading The Nickel is chef restaurateur, Chris Thompson, a culinary veteran.
In addition to executing the vision of the new Denver Restaurant, Thompson is conceptualizing each culinary detail throughout the property. This includes everything from the catering and in-room menus, to the extensive beverage program that includes a bar of house barrel-aged spirits and an experiential coffee and wine lounge.
With this new concept, Hotel Teatro welcomes guests and locals for everything from morning coffee to lunch options for business workers, brunch on the weekends and a free-spirited way to unwind in the evenings with this redesign.
“We’re excited to introduce The Nickel to everyone,” explained Afsi Bird, general manager of the hotel. “We have a new team and will unveil a new lobby, a new culinary program and a new outlook on the next great destination for downtown Denver,” she continued.

- Study Breakfast & Room Service Breakfast: 6:30 a.m. - 11 a.m.
- Nickel Lunch: 11 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.
- Nickel Dinner: 5 p.m. - 11 p.m.
- Study Limited Menu ("All Day Menu"): 2:30 p.m. - 5 p.m.
- Room Service All Day Menu: 11 a.m. - 11 p.m.
- Room Service Limited Overnight Menu: 11 p.m. - 6:30 a.m.

Executive Chef/Salumaio Bio - Christopher Thompson:
Christopher Thompson is the executive chef and salumaio at San Francisco’s award-winning A16 restaurant. Although in his early 30s, Thompson has already spent more than half his life in kitchens. He is driven by the challenging and exciting environment provided by the Bay Area and its proximity to the favorable growing region of Northern California farms.
Born in Long Beach, California and raised in the resort town of Telluride, Colorado, his first job as a teenager was working as a short order cook at a lodge. “At the time, I was more interested in having a job that would allow me to snowboard during the day but there was something in the controlled chaos of that job that really drew me in.” says Thompson.
